In the Gospel of Luke, in Book 11:
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John the Baptist taught his disciples."
Jesus replied, "When you pray, say:
"Dear God, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy Kingdom come, & thy will be done
On Earth, as it is in Heaven.
"Please give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And please, lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
"For thine is the Kingdom,
the power and the glory,
forever and ever."
